Abstract The Bard family is one of the most influential families in Ventura County history. The family moved to the area from Pennsylvania by Thomas R. Bard in the 1860s. He was soon followed by his brother, Cephas "Little" Bard, who was a trained medical doctor. Thomas R. Bard was involved in local politics and went on to serve as a senator in the U.S. Senate. Abstract

This collection is primarily correspondence written by Nehemiah Blackstock, of Ventura, to Spencer Roane Thorpe between 1883-1886. Between 1883 and 1886, Thorpe primarily lived in San Francisco, California, permanently moving to Ventura for a short time in 1886. Correspondence mainly covers matters related to real estate purchases and management of agricultural land. Some financial and legal records from approximately 1878-1886 are also included.

Abstract The Camarillo family of Ventura County traces its heritage back to Juan Camarillo, Sr. Born on May 27, 1812 in Mexico City to Luis and Maria Camarillo, Juan came to California with the Hijar-Padres Expedition in 1834. He married Martina H. Hernandez, the great-granddaughter of Jose Francisco Ortega, in 1840 or 1841 at the Santa Barbara Mission.
