Scope and Contents
This collection includes personal and professional papers from Albert D. Barnes, as well as his wife Annette Vehlow Barnes. The papers include notes, legal journals, correspondence, awards, family photographs, legal papers related to Barnes' death and family estates, pamphlets on historical subjects, ephemera, clippings, essays and writing of Barnes, personal records, joke cards and postcards, family history documents, yearbooks, and cookbooks. All materials relate to either Barnes' work as an attorney, his family history, or Annette Vehlow Barnes' family history.

Biographical / Historical
Albert Depue Barnes was a Ventura County district attorney. Born on January 25, 1906 in California. He attended South Pasadena High School. After passing the State Bar in 1928 he practiced law in Ventura County. He served as district attorney from 1934 until 1937. In 1965 he was elected regional vice-president of the regional State Bar Association. Barnes was also a 30-year member of the Kiwanis and enjoyed writing poetry. He married Annette Pearle Vehlow on May 13, 1933 in Santa Barbara. She was born on November 28, 1906 in Kansas. She died on December 28, 1980 at the age of 74 in Ventura County. Barnes died on March 16, 1984 at the age of 78 in Ventura.

Abstract
Albert Depue Barnes was Ventura County district attorney from 1934 to 1937. Born in 1906 in California, he began practicing law in 1928. He married Annette Pearle Vehlow in 1933 in Santa Barbara, and they both lived in Ventura County until their deaths. This collection includes the personal and professional papers of Albert D. Barnes, as well as some papers from his wife Annette. This includes notes, correspondence, family photographs, ephemera, clippings, essays and writing of Barnes, personal records, and family history documents, among other things.
Organization and Arrangement
These papers are organized at the collection level. There was no further arrangement of the papers. The folders are in original order; however, there is no indication whether or not this was the original order created by Barnes.
