The purchased items in this ledger are grocery items written in Italian. The inside cover has a paper pasted to it with the letter head: Saticoy California. Bought of Lagomarsino and Baronio, dealers in: General Merchandise, Staple and Fancy Groceries, Country Produce, Fine Imported Cigars Etc.

Biographical / Historical
John (Johnny) Lagomarsino was born in Genoa, Italy in 1864. He immigrated to California in 1882 and moved to Ventura in 1886. He married in 1890 to Caterina Peripimeno and shortly thereafter opened his first business, a small grocery store at the corner of Front and Ash Streets. It was later moved to Santa Clara Street across from the Occidental Hotel. The grocery store became Lagomarsino's Saloon after he started bottling beer. His business moved to Main street and it became the principal liquor store in Ventura.
