Pasted to front cover: Day-Book kept by Detroy Brothers in 1875 ------ The Detroys were not the first butchers in this city. Peter Constantia ran a butcher-shop in Ventura in a little adobe which stood near the Hotel Pointsettia, formerly the Santa Clara Hotel in the west end, between Palm and Oak Streets. Their shop was near the Oak Street corner and was the first house built by the late Selwyn Shaw in 1867.
