This artificial collection was created by library staff and the history of each item may differ. The maps are mostly of Ventura County, but there are several other locations represented, including California, Oregon, and Arizona. The maps include aerial photographs, topographical maps, housing tract plans, and maps for roads, surveyors, rail lines, and equipment locations.

Abstract T. William "Bill" Hale was a local architect and civil engineer. In 1967 he was Thousand Oaks' first director of public works. He owned the Ventura engineering and surveying firm, Robert Martin and Associates, which was sold to Ed Campbell following Hale's death and became U.S.A. Architects. Scope and Contents From the Collection:

This collection consists of glass plate negatives, mostly gelatin glass negatives, and some photographic prints. While most of the images in this collection were captured by either John C. Brewster or Waldo Henry Dingman Sr, some may be the work of other photographers. The negatives are largely of Ventura County locations, historic sites, persons, and events, such as parades and holiday celebrations. There are also several boxes of unidentified negatives.
