Abstract

This collection consists of negatives that correspond with local interest news stories published in the Camarillo Daily News, which ran from 1971-1993, and Camarillo Star Free Press, which ran from 1993-1994. Negatives are dated from 1989 through 1994. Negatives accompanied a range of news articles covering politics, sports, businesses, schools, events, and people from Camarillo and surrounding cities, including Newbury Park, Somis, Thousand Oaks, and Oxnard.

This maps in this collection are mostly of Ventura County, but there are several other locations represented, including California, Oregon, and Arizona. The maps include aerial photographs, topographical maps, housing tract plans, and maps for roads, surveyors, rail lines, and equipment locations.

Ventura County Star Free Press negatives collection

Abstract The Ventura County Star was founded in 1925 by the John P. Scripps Newspaper Group. In approximately 1936, the Star acquired the Ventura Free Press, which was founded in 1875, and began publishing as the Ventura County Star-Free Press in 1938. In 1994, the newspaper dropped the Free Press and began publishing again as the Ventura County Star. Their headquarters are in Camarillo, California.
