Abstract The 1983 23rd Summer Olympics were largely held in Los Angeles. However, several events took place in Ventura County. Lake Casitas hosted canoeing and rowing events, which created many job and volunteer opportunities for Ventura County residents. The Bertha Ayers papers contains memorabilia belonging to Bertha Ayers Linder, the wife of Mayor Fred Linder. The collection includes letters, documents, newspapers, and other ephemera from Ayers' life, as well as eight school notebooks belonging to Winnie Smith, circa 1890s.
