Abstract Merrill Carr Allyn, born in 1904, moved to the Upper Ojai with his family when he was four years old. After graduating from Ventura High School in 1922, he developed a lifelong interest in boating and sea life. He started working as a deckhand for a local boater and eventually opened a boat-building business. He also served as commissioner of the Ventura Port District several times in the 1950s and 1960s. Scope and Contents From the Collection:

This collection consists of glass plate negatives, mostly gelatin glass negatives, and some photographic prints. While most of the images in this collection were captured by either John C. Brewster or Waldo Henry Dingman Sr, some may be the work of other photographers. The negatives are largely of Ventura County locations, historic sites, persons, and events, such as parades and holiday celebrations. There are also several boxes of unidentified negatives.
