Biographical / Historical
The Bard family played an important part in the development of Ventura County, particularly Port Hueneme. Thomas R. Bard and Cephas Bard moved to the area in the late 19th century. The family established Quimichis Colony, which involved acquiring 75,000 acres of land in western Mexico between Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta. The firm grew bananas, sugar cane, pineapple, corn, and other agricultural products. Richard Bard, son of Thomas R. Bard, served as president of the company.

Abstract
